Air travel is more accessible today than ever before. Nevertheless, ticket prices can vary significantly depending on the date, destination, airline and booking conditions. So, how do you find a great deal while avoiding unpleasant surprises?

I have prepared a few practical tips that may help you when planning your next trip.

1. Be flexible with your travel dates

A difference of just a few days can significantly change the price of a flight. If you are not tied to a fixed date, it is worth comparing different departure and return days.

2. Compare multiple airports

When departing, you don’t have to be limited to Prague. Depending on your destination, Vienna, Berlin, Munich or Katowice can be interesting alternatives.

However, remember to also factor in the costs of transport to the airport, parking or a potential overnight stay.

3. Monitor the final price

The cheapest offer may not always be the most advantageous. Some fares charge extra for checked luggage, seat selection, or other services.

Therefore, before purchasing, compare the total costs and terms of carriage.

4. Check your connections

For long-haul flights, a lower price may mean a longer layover or a change of airport.

It is also important to check whether the individual flights are part of a single booking or are separate tickets. In the event of a delay, the difference in how a connecting flight can be handled can be fundamental.

5. Book a reasonable time in advance

There is no universal rule stating that flights are cheapest on a particular day of the week. Prices change continuously based on demand, seat availability, and the carriers’ pricing policies.

For travel during high season, public holidays, or school holidays, it is therefore advisable to start your search early.

6. Check change and cancellation terms

Always read the specific fare rules before paying for your ticket. Some bookings allow for date changes, while others are very restricted.
